NOSDRA: DG meets with FOSTER Representatives.

The Director General, Mr Idris O. Musa and the Management of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) met with representatives from the Facility for Oil Sector Transparency and Reform (FOSTER) on Monday 15th April, 2019 at the Agency's Head Quarters in Abuja.

In his introductory remarks, the FOSTER representative, Mr Henry Adigun stated that the facility may not be directly involved in the affairs of the Agency, however, they can provide resources that will aid in the reformation of the Agency.

The Director General spoke on the need for an oil spill Trust fund to be created in order to combat any sudden oil spillages considering the increasing rate of oil production in Sub-Saharan African Countries. He added that although the Trust fund will be passed through NOSDRA, the President should be involved in the appointment of chairmanship as well as approval of the release of funds.

The DG raised the issue of Capacity building for staff in the Agency, adding that in recent times, the staff employed have not received proper and adequate training. He also spoke on the need for mobility to aid in monitoring the activities in these areas with oil dispensing stations as well as the instruments for detection of oil spills.

In response to the issues raised, Mr Henry of FOSTER advised that a budget should be made to accompany the presentation of these issues and on capacity building for staff, he added that this aspect is not a mandate for the facility, however, the Agency can nominate staff to join in trainings organised by the Facility. With regards to other issues, he said the facility will look into areas they can get involved.

The DG and Board of directors commended the facility on their interest in the Agency and willingness to work with the Agency.
